Counselling with Young People

Counselling with Young People 2018-10-20T09:43:51+00:00

In one way or another, I have spent my entire career working with teenagers and young people. This has included working with young offenders, those with Autism & Asperger’s, those having difficulties with their families and even those looking to clarify what direction they want to take in life.

Some people say that I’m mad to have such a passion for working with young people, but for me, it’s another one of those incredibly important points in your life where there is so much going on in terms of school, exams, managing friendships, making decisions about the future (college, Uni, work, etc.), trying to find out who you are, managing life in general and the list goes on and on.

So when I get the chance to talk with a young person and ask them, what their hopes are from talking with me, it’s no surprise that often the first answer is, “I don’t know.” I take it all in stride and just continue the conversation as it’s likely they haven’t had time or space to think about this given everything else that they have going on in their lives.

I have yet to meet a young person who doesn’t have an idea of how they’d like things to be, even if it’s just to say that they’d like things to be better than they are right now. For me using Solution Focused Brief Therapy, that is enough to get started and to start exploring what they might be noticing when things are better.

It is through having a conversation this way that makes Solution Focused Brief Therapy so effective and different as it allows for them to be part of the change moving forward. Once we look at what parts of their description are already happening and how they’re making those things happen, change starts to happen.

Sessions can take place online as well as face to face at the Therapy Life Centre at 11 Prittlewell Chase, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS0 0RX. Also, if you’d like to discuss the option of me coming to you, then please contact me so that we can discuss this further. Appointments are available on a flexible basis to fit your busy lifestyle and are available on various mornings, afternoons, evenings as well as occasional weekends. If you’d like to speak more about whether or not I could offer you an appointment at a time that is convenient for you, please do get in touch. The sessions  last for around 45 to 50 minutes and cost £75 per session.
